Why Do We Use SilkTest?

We are pleased with the abilities of Segue's SilkTest product to automate tasks associated with testing software both on and off the web. SilkTest allows you to craft test scripts that can be run without modification on different windows platforms and on either Internet Explorer or Netscape browsers. It is not limited to just testing GUI (Graphical User Interface) applications. It supports program invocations from command line, DLL, and Java APIs (Application Program Interfaces)in a distributed environment, so client/server and multi-tier configurations can be driven or monitored at all levels. Each SilkTest host machine has access to ODBC compliant SQL databases and ASCII file I/O.

SilkTest's 4Test language has features that reduce test script errors and speed test script development and maintenance tasks.

  1. An architecture for error recovery that uses application states
  2. Cross-platform window declarations that make your test scripts portable across Windows (9x, NT, 2000), UNIX, IE, and Netscape
  3. Support for 'include' files that facilitate building test function libraries
  4. Strong data typing
  5. List and 'record' data structures
  6. Support for test script object classes with properties and methods
  7. An editor with color syntax highlighting
  8. A 'hot-link' feature that works with the test script error call stack to take you directly to the test script source code associated with an error
